Mercedes Walton is a veteran corporate executive, former public company BOD Chair, CEO & COO and
independent board director with extensive cross-industry experience in IT, Telecom, Biotech and Energy.
Her professional career began with AT&T’s management development program following graduate
studies at Harvard. Over twenty-four years at AT&T she held assignments in strategy, business
development, business & consumer operations, global network operations, government markets,
engineering, marketing & sales, product management and human resources. She last served as an AT&T
officer, VP Corporate Strategy & Business Development, responsible for broadband network content
From 2003 – 2011, Mercedes served as Chair & CEO of Cryo-Cell International, Inc. a publicly traded
biotechnology company specializing in stem cell preservation services. During her tenure, Cryo-Cell
achieved and sustained historic growth and profitability. As principal inventor on the company’s expansive
patent portfolio, she led commercialization and product launch of breakthrough stem cell services.
In 2001, she served as President & COO of Applied Digital Solutions, Inc. a publicly traded advanced
technology company that acquired Digital Angel Corporation along with the innovative implantable chip
device that combined biosensors, GPS and wireless technologies.
Since 2000, she has served on the Board of Directors for a wide range of public, private and non-profit
companies. She served on the board of Savvis Inc. until the company’s 2011 acquisition by CenturyLink
for over $2.5B. She served on the Board of Datalink until the company’s acquisition by Insight Enterprises
Inc. in January 2017. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Peak Reliability in Vancouver,
Mercedes is a MIT Sloan Fellow ’95 and holds a M.S. in Technology Management from MIT Sloan School
of Management, M.Ed. from Harvard University and B.A. from Smith College.
